Who We Are
Based in Berkeley, Spring Society Pilates is a boutique Pilates studio offering private and duet sessions and small group classes. Blending a contemporary approach with classical principles rooted in biomechanics and exercise science, we help folks of all ages and backgrounds achieve their movement goals.
Whether you’re trying to maximize athletic performance, rehabilitate from injury, improve your fitness, or simply be free of pain, we will work together to unlock new levels of strength and flexibility, grow your confidence, and build physical awareness through movement. With classes limited to five participants, we pride ourselves on providing expert instruction and a high level of individualized attention to each client.
Tucked quietly back from the road with high ceilings and plenty of natural light, the studio is furnished with state-of-the-art and professionally maintained equipment from Balanced Body, including reformers with towers, chairs, arcs, and a ladder barrel, Cadillac/trapeze table, and CoreAlign, along with plenty of props.
Located in the historic Tannery building in West Berkeley’s vibrant Gilman District, Spring Society Pilates is only one block off I-80 and the new Gilman Street off-ramp. Sitting at the corners of Fourth and Gilman — two of Berkeley’s most exciting and popular districts — the studio is surrounded by notable restaurants, wineries, breweries, and shopping. We encourage clients to take advantage of the ample free parking, including street parking and marked visitor parking.
Our Philosophy
Our mission is to empower you to move and live better in a fun and supportive environment. We know this might look different for each person, which is why we thoughtfully and strategically develop customized plans to meet you where you are today, all while working towards your future goals.
We not only take pride in what we do, but also how we do it. Our values guide us in everything we do.
We believe in:
Inclusion. We are committed to creating a supportive environment where all individuals are welcomed, respected, supported, and valued as they are.
Evidence-based principles. Unfortunately there is no shortage of misinformation in the Pilates industry. We utilize the best objective research rooted in science to guide programming decisions.
Communication. We strive to be real. honest, and transparent in all we do, and encourage clients to openly share information they feel would be helpful for us to know.
Curiosity. We believe that knowledge is empowering, so we encourage clients to keep asking questions and never stop learning.
Fun. Unlikable things are unsustainable things. We value celebrating wins, making new friends, and laughing together whenever we can!
